So tomorrow is the first day in a LONG time that I don’t have to get up early!  I’m soo excited about not having to get up to be anywhere for once 🙂

Anyways, I haven’t done my nails in a little bit since I’ve been in the hospital a lot for either clinicals or my externship.  Since I don’t having anything other than school work to do right now I decided to play around with another one of my crackle polishes from China Glaze.

China Glaze Crushed Candy over OPI Funky Dunkey

The other hand...

When I use my first crackle glaze I assume it was like OPI’s Black Shatter in that I would need a clear coat over the base coat before topping it off with the crackle. After reading other people’s reviews of the CG Crackle Glazes I decided to try forgoing the clear coat.  I discovered that you DON’T need a clear coat prior to applying the crackle glazes!!  Unlike OPI Black Shatter  this didn’t “eat through” the base coat at all.

China Glaze: Crackle Glaze February 18, 2011

So right now I am supposed to be working on my psych clinical assignments, but my new polishes are just too tempting 😛

Last week I pre-ordered China Glaze’s new collection “Crackle Glaze”.  This collection consists of 6 polishes that create a crackled or shattered effected when placed over a base color.  OPI recently release their Katy Perry collection featuring Black Shatter, which is the same thing.  China Glaze however took this trend a step further by offering colors other than black!

(left to right) Broken Hearted, Lightning Bolt, Black Mesh, Fault Line, Crushed Candy

I picked up all except for the gray color, since it just didn’t appeal to me.  And I got the black to give to my sister since OPI’s Black Shatter is sold out pretty much everywhere and I prefer not to share mine.

To see how these compare to OPI… KEEP READING…

How to use OPI Black Shatter Nailpolish February 2, 2011

Katy Perry Collection by OPI

A couple of weeks ago OPI released their Katy Perry Collection which included 5 “colors”; the most interesting of the set is Black Shatter! Black shatter is different in that it is more of a topcoat of sorts, the directions with the nail polish states:

“Apply one coat of Black Shatter over any completely dry Katy shade for an irresistable “shattered” look.”

As the polish dries it separates on the nail creating a broken look over your initial color.  What you get is a customized look without having to go pay for nail art/manicure.  Plus, due to the effect you don’t have to worry about being overly neat or perfect with your application.  However there are some tricks getting the ideal look.

Updated Skin Routinue August 28, 2010

Since I first posted my skin routine it has undergone quite a bit of change. Starting in April or May my skin, not just on my face, went out of control!  A 2 week vacation to Las Vegas resulted in improvement, but the moment I got back to Virginia the dry skin and itchiness came back.  Since the eczema had just gotten so out of control I signed up for health insurance and finally saw the dermatologist.  That was 2-3 weeks ago and I have seen a ton of improvement.  My dermatologist really helped to get the eczema on my body under control.

While I was in the waiting room I read an article disputing whether facial moisturizer was necessary or not.  One of the arguments stated that moisturizer, particular over-moisturizing, can cause more dryness as it causes the skin cells to be “lazy”/inactive about natural moisturization.  After some thought I decided to try cutting back on the lotions and creams that I slather on my face.  I was very skeptical at first, but I have noticed my face not being so dry.  Definitely a reduction in flakiness!

  • Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser – If I wore a lot of makeup the day/night before I will wash my face, otherwise I will just rinse with water.
  • Aveeno Skin Brightening Daily Scrub – I use this maybe 2-3 times a week to exfoliate
  • Garnier Nutritioniste Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel-Cream – I have been using this for a little over a month and I really like it.  It’s kind of odd at first since it’s not like lotions I’ve used before.  I will be writing a review soon, hopefully.
  • Sunscreen before makeup – currently I am using Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Sunblock Lotion SPF 55

  • Pond’s Deep Cleanser & Makeup Remover – I use this by wetting my face with warm water, then massaging the cream all over my face.  This stuff is amazing and gets EVERYTHING off without stinging my eyes.  I rinse with warm water and wipe my face with a warm, damp washcloth to make sure I get all of it off
  • Neutrogena Makeup Removing Wipes – If it’s a late night, and I’m too lazy to wash with Pond’s I will use these wipes
  • Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion – I prefer the new formula, Daily Advanced Ultra Hydrating Lotion, but I ran out and I have the normal one left.  Since I use it as a “pre-moisturizer” it’s fine
  • Clinique Moisture On Line – I picked this up at the CCO on a whim; I think it might be discontinued since I didn’t see it at Sephora or at the Clinique counter.  Dry skin on the face makes my skin wrinkle, so the anti-aging components in this cream work great.  I use it after allowing the Cetaphil lotion to soak in.

Definitely cut back on the number products I was using!

Product Review: Eucerin Calming Creme May 18, 2010

Over the past couple of weeks I have experienced a really bad outbreak of eczema on my back.   I have been dealing with eczema all my life, most on my face, neck, arms, but it had never been on my back.  Having the itch on my back is whole different experience for me.  There are times with my back is just unbearably itchy, particular in the middle of the night.  I find myself dampening a face towel with cold water and having to just keep it on my back indefinitely to relieve the itch.  The prescription ointments (atopiclair and protopic) have done barely anything for the itch.

I had run out my my Aveeno Intense Relief Cream; which unfortunately my skin seems to have gotten used to, and was strolling down the lotion aisle at Taregt.  When I a little my parents had me try just about every brand in the aisle (Jergens, Suave, Lubriderm, Eucerin, Aveeno).  Unfortunately I had used soo many different lotions that it’s hard for me to recall which brands actually worked.

Since the outbreak on my back was getting to be soo unbearable I new that I need something STRONG, a plan old lotion wasn’t going to do it.  For some reason the tube of Eucerin Calming Cream caught my eye; perhaps it was in part due to the sale sticker 😛  I decided to give it a try.

When I was younger my sister and I loved painting our nails all sorts of colors. We had a pretty nice collection of Wet n Wild colors and glitters, along with a couple of other drugstore finds. However, when I reached middle school I started to constantly pick at my nail polish whenever I had it on. Whenever I saw a little chip I would proceed to peel off the rest of the color until there was nothing left. Since then I hadn’t really done my nails because it was just a waste.

Recently something has clicked and I’m suddenly driven to do my nails again. Perhaps it’s the fact that once I start nursing school I can’t really paint my nails crazy color, or that I’ve pretty much accumulated enough make up to last me for a while 😛 Either way, I’ve started back up with painting my nails. So far I’ve resisted the urge to pick at the color, but that isn’t my problem. My problem now is that I can’t seem to get the color to stay more than a day or two without it chipping! Perhaps it’s time to invest in a good base/top coat.  Any suggestions?

Currently my nails are Re-Fresh Mint and my toes are Pacific blue

Product Review: Tresemme Dry Shampoo April 5, 2010

Recently I saw a couple of videos on YouTube talking about dry shampoos. I had never heard of dry shampoo and didn’t really think much of it. Then the other day I realized that it might be beneficial for me to try out. Before I’ve mentioned how I have extremely dry skin; in fact my doctors have always told me that I should be taking showers everyday, but if I do to use water thatisn’t too hot. Well, despite my scalp being super dry my hair tend to get really oily/greasy if I don’t shower everyday. I don’t wash my hair everyday with shampoo, typically I shampoo maybe 2-3 times a week and then I condition almost everyday. This has kept my hair from being greasy, but I don’t think it really helps with my dry scalp; which has started to get pretty bad lately.

So I started to research what was out there.  One of my deciding factors was that I didn’t want one that sprayed on white.  That ruled out Batiste, which is a popular drugstore brand.  However, I did not want to start out with the higher end brands since I didn’t know if I would like dry shampoo.  Luckily I found out about Tresemme’s Fresh Start line, and I was able to find it at Walmart!

I got the idea for this look after watching a makeup tutorial by Holly Annaeree.  Basically she does a “Wearable Bold Winged Eyeliner Look”; her’s looks much bolder since she uses fake lashes, which definitely make this look better but I just tried layering a couple of mascaras to attempt a similar look.  Next time I will definitely try to go heavier with the liner… do not be afraid of liner with this look!

Last night the boyfriend, roommate, and I went to Funny Bone since I won free tickets.
Before Funny Bone we went to TGIFridays. This was our effort to avoid getting food once at Funny Bone. Too bad we still got some food there…

Anyways, I decided to try something new, a wedge salad. If you aren’t familiar with what a wedge salad is basically it’s a whole quarter slice of iceberg lettuce with the dressing and other veggies kind of served on top of you slice of lettuce. The idea of a chunk of lettuce on my plate has never been appealing to me, but since we were using my roommate’s discount I decided to give it a try. I got the Southwest Wedge Salad; toppings included roasted corn, beans, mexican cheese, tortilla strips, pico de gallo, Chiptole ranch.

Today I got up a little early for work and decided to come up with another look.  Giving up buying makeup for lent has forced me to actually look at all the products I’ve collect over the past couple of months.  I realized that I hadn’t really been using my pigments very much and decided to try out using one as a liner.  I sprayed some MAC Fix+ onto my liner brush and dipped it into the pigment.  I didn’t pick the best color to use with this eye, but I’m guessing it works pretty well.  Will definitely try it out with some of my other colors.

Also, I’ve been playing around with my foundations to figure out a moisturizing combination.  Today I tried mixing my Revlon Photoready with Revlon Colorstay and some of my Cetaphil lotion.  We’ll see how this one lasts….
